The Clapham Inn/British gastro pub, Ashiya
In early April, when the cherry flowers burst into blossom along both sides of the Ashiya river, the area attracts so many picnickers.
And this is when the Clapham Inn recommends one of their signature foods, fish and chips, for a picnic under the cherry trees. Well, I didn’t bring it out with me on a perfectly sunny spring day, but instead ate it in the bar. No matter where you eat it, I think it tastes fabulous. During the cherry blossom season, the pub even has special sakura(cherry flower) beer.
On a different occasion, I had their Sunday special, the roast beef. The tender meat and the mashed potatoes on the side, and the Heineken beer – just exquisite!
This pub, though tacked away from the various city centers of the Kansai area, seems to draw many beer lovers and foodies. When I went there on a Tuesday afternoon, there were several ladies at the counter savoring their food and beer.
Personally I love food more than alcohol(though consuming them in tandem is best!) ,so I am glad the pub has a long list of authentic British delicacies.I won’t lie to you readers, I have never been to England; thus I have never eaten ‘authentic’ British pub food. Still I believe the food offered at the Clapham Inn is just about as good as it gets.
The Ashiya river in early April. This one of the greatest spots for cherry blossom viewing in the Kansai area is just 20-minute train ride from Hankyu Umeda station in Osaka.
